What to bring - a starter kit
Dapping is a fairly unusual method
of fishing, and the equipment - although simple and cheap - can be hard
to find if you don't know where to look. For those new to the field,
here is a basic shopping list compiled with the help of the specialist
suppliers John Norris of Penrith.

Shakespeare 17'3" telescopic
onset dapping rod.

Dapping flies. These are Black Dap, Blue Zulu and Brown Hopper.

Bob Church Breeze Floss Blowline
The total cost of all this, including carriage,
should be under £70.00. You could easily spend more, but this
kit will do the job well. The other bits you'll need - centre-pin reel,
line, net etc. - should already be part of your conventional fly-fishing
arsenal.
For some specific guidance
on what sort of flies you should be looking for, both dapping and conventional,
see Peter Lock's fly list, as linked to the Fishing
Map Notes .
If you want to discuss your needs with an expert
before buying, you can talk to Pete or Rob in the John Norris rod department
on 01768 864 211. And when you're ready to buy, you
can do so either by 'phone, or on the John
Norris online shop.
