Fishing Map - South End
|
The South End is the smallest of the three fishing areas, and
is somewhat different in character. The mouth of the Strathmore
River lies at its south-west corner, and the fish tend to congregate
in the estuarial shallows. The area is divided into three beats,
which rotate daily: see Rules &
Regs for details.
Motors may not be used
at the South End, except in emergency. For this reason, it is
customary to take a ghillie, or someone else with detailed knowledge
of the water, to help with the rowing and navigation. Drifts will
be determined by wind direction, which may vary considerably in
the course of a day.
Virtually the whole
of the South End area is fishable, and some of the water is very
shallow, especially so in Beat 1. For this reason, it is important
to move quietly so as not to disturb the fish, and to avoid straying
into a neighbouring beat, particularly with other boats on the
water. Special care should be taken when crossing Beat 1 en route
to Beats 2 or 3.

Map Notes for a colour key.
