Finding the fish - colour key hints

Sea-trout and salmon generally lie in water 1 - 6 metres deep, but sea-trout will often move around an area in quite shallow water, so may be encountered close to shore.

The fish dislike disturbance, so avoid engine noise and use oars quietly.

Salmon share sea-trout areas, but tend to lie in deeper water, 2.5 - 10 metres. During a spate salmon will often congregate around burn mouths and be ready to take the fly.
